When i tried the my beloved Final Fantasy 8 on steam lately, i was frustrated by the low FPS. everything was at max 30 fps, some areas even 15! my 2026 brain just couldn't handle those low fps and i thought to myself "There must be a way to change that"
Luckily there is an awesome modding community for FF8, and with junction VIII, theres a great mod installer too. the base mod "FFNx" already did some heavy lifting and created an experimental 60fps unlocker. but my monitor runs at 144 fps! so i tinkered around with the animations, with spells etc. which was very well documented too!
so right now i am doing a playthrough in combination with creating a mod that lets the game run at any FPS, since the animations are written for 30/15 fps in mind, which makes it deterministic. spells etc still have their own little programm they run that manipulates other entities and states, so everything needs special treatment. but even walking through town with 144fps feels so great!
